Bond University Library

While I'm arguing what a serious ommission it is for Australia to not have a bill of rights in my constitutional law paper, there is an omission just as serious at the Bond University Library. The following is an actual complaint - with response - I put in the library suggestion box just four days ago:

My Suggestion:

First off, I want to thank Bond University for providing DVD's for student use. This shows that Bond recognizes the unique situation of students, especially when it comes to their financial concerns. However, I recently noticed a startling omission in your music DVD section. You have included DVD's from the Rolling Stones, Metallica, and even Green Day to name a few. Nowhwere to be found is any sign of Australia's greatest rock band, and its most successful worldwide musical act - AC/DC. While it's great to include the DVD's of other great bands, where is Bond's sense of patriotism? AC/DC is the 5th best selling band in music history and has the best selling DVD (Familiy Jewels) in music history. It's disappointing that one of their many DVD's are not in your catalogue. This student is asking Bond to do the right thing and showcase Australia's best. Yours truly, Gord Prisco.

Library Response:

Thanks for your feedback about the DVDs. It's good to know you appreciate them.

As an educational institution, most of our resources are provided to support the University's teaching and learning. For example, the feature films and TV series on DVD and video are primarily to support the Film & TV courses while at the same time being available to the whole Bond community.

The music CD collection was donated as a gift in years gone by so we did not choose the artists or music styles represented. As the University does not teach in this area, we do not envisage adding to the collection at present.

Thanks again for taking the time to give us your comments, regards, Wendy.
-end-

For those of you that don't believe me, go to the main library and check the board. This issue is far from over. Wendy, you can expect to hear back from me shortly.
