Meet the candidates....met the candidates.

Well, we asked, and they came. Last night at Club 20 and Don's Tavern was the first ever informal meet and greet the candidates night. Here's my two-cents for the next council - the Thursday before every debate should be meet the candidates night at Don's. It gives a chance for all the candidates to speak to the more students and then discuss these issues at the debate a few days later. Why not I say?

The turnout was better than expected - with most - if not all candidates making an appearance.

While I try to keep my voting intentions close to my chest, I have to give credit where credit is due. The people that took the time to come to talk to me are worthy of mention here. Kudos to all of you. That's what the process is about - taking the time to go meet people. If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times - if you're a candidate and you want to get elected, you better take a shot and go talk to people. I talk to all students about it, and here's what they say, "I have to vote for that guy, because he took the time to come introduce himself to me and talk to me." It's as easy as that. Anyway, on that note, here's a list of the people that have contested positions that took the time to come speak with me:

  • Vishant "Vish" Narayan -Treasurer, Julien du Vergier - Treasurer, Ash Armitage - Treasurer, Matthew Cantatore - President, Mike Truce - Secretary, Sadia Stathis - Secretary, Jack "Skuller" Blackburn - Campus Life Director, Troy Smith - Publications, Joe Corrigan - Publications, Cathy Rowe - Special Interests Director, Alex Stratigos - Special Interests Director, Dylan Wiltermuth - Sponsorship.
I also have to give special mention to the people that have uncontested positions, who not only made it out last night, but also took the time to speak with me and a number of other students: Mat Cam, Matt Hooper, Deb Horsley, Bronte Campbell (early polls indicate that, although already acclaimed, Bronte is still down in the polls. He does have the best candidate message of anyone though. See the link at the bottom). I didn't get a chance to speak with Fabia, but I think I saw her there.

It must also be mentioned that President Jess and VP Justin Tilley also attended - even with their busy schedule of kissing babies and cutting ribbons.

For candidate profiles, go here.

The candidates debate will be held on campus on Monday at 4pm. Apparently all candidates are going to be given time to speak - that was the right decision.

I promise after this election is over I will go back to www.gordprisco.blogspot.com's regular programming of rumours, innuendo, defaming people, albums of the week, AC/DC talk...that gets me to think - why do any of you fools read this? And I thought I needed a life...I'm going boogie boarding with my 13 year old friends at the beach. later.

I'm just going to put this out there because I don't know who read's this blog who know Vi$hant Narayan.

Everyone should exercise their common sense and vote for Vi$h for Treasurer of student council.

While Julien and Ashleigh will both work hard and honestly, there is no substitute for knowledge and skill. Vish is the ONLY candidate that has the technical skill to do the job right. He is a Masters student, studing Finance.

Neither Julien or Ashleigh have the technical skills or experience to do the bookwork correctly and accurately. While they have other qualities, the ability for the candidate to do the job should be your imperative when deciding who to vote for.

For those who don't know Vish, he has already been and gone through the law school before you guys. So he knows where Law students and Business students at Bond are coming from.

In summation, if you want someone to represent you best as treasurer of SC, vote vish and "bring the penny back"

Hey guys.. Who posted that comment? It wasn't me, I want to make that clear. Well whoever did thanks, I appreciate the support. Maybe next time put a name up or go anonymous atleast so it doesn't seem like I may be underhandedly posting things up.

While i'm here - my two cents worth is - that I reallly like what Gord's doing here, and a huge HEAR HEAR!! to Nitay and Bronte, and all the shirts around campus, people wanting them and being involved.... I think although it was a poor show for SC & BUSA elections, the buzz around campus can ONLY be good for student life.

I think its great & I hope to see everyone come along and have a vote next week... It may be the beginning of a new era...

PS: Peter Costello doesn't have a finance degree but is a great politician. John Howard is a better politician, and he has an economics background.

"Peter Costello has been one of Australia's treasures and he did not study finance."

Peter Costello has a staff consisting of people in over 6 regions in Australia. The majority of whom are exceptional uni graduates in finance, economics, law and commerce. To think that Peter Costello sits down and drafts "the budget" borders on idiocy.

You are comparing apples and oranges jack.
