"I'd like to drink with Duncan..." - 7 Questions

In the face of blogging competition at Bond Uni, the staff and board of directors of www.gordprisco.blogspot.com have decided to take to this little blog to a new level. We'd like to call our new feature "7 Questions." From time to time we will attempt at interviewing celebrities around the University, and what better way to start our new feature than to get a Bond Celebrity on board - Dean of the Law School, Duncan Bentley.

Duncan has graciously given some time to www.gordprisco.blogspot.com CEO Gord Prisco to answer these questions. Without further ado, here they are:

1) Could the Dean on the Bond Law School win the Australian TV show Big Brother? And what would be the tactic be if so?

Easily. I would offer the other contestants AWAs to work at the newly refurbished Don's Tavern. They would be fighting to spend time working with the good looking, amazingly intelligent and socially aware Bond students and would be begging to be voted off. The TV audience would rush to Don's to see what all the fuss was about, leaving you to vote for me to win.

2) Who is the greatest Canadian Hockey player ever?

I didn't know Canadians played hockey. The Australians play hockey and almost always win. Canadians dress up in strange costume and do something on ice with funny shaped sticks and an odd little ball. At Don's Bond students play pool with long sticks and lots of coloured balls. Late in the evening the balls appear to move around the room and change colour as you watch.

3) Many students have just completed a big Equity assignment and are about to write the exam. Most are struggling with the course. Could you answer this question to help some students further understand this difficult course?:

James is the sole beneficial owner of a pork chop made at the Brasserie at Bond University in June 2006. Matt Lives on campus and is hungry. Rob is a washed up Rugby player and is James' attorney. James phones Rob and tells him that he would like to pass 1/2 ownership of his pork chop to Matt. James tells Rob to call Matt immediately to tell him that he has 1/2 ownership of the pork chop. Rob makes this call to Matt and tells him that he now is the owner of the pork chop. James then calls Matt and asks him if he wants some gravy for the chop. Matt replies that all he wants is a clean plate. James has taken a bite of the good part of the pork chop and is now claiming the transaction for the chop is not valid. What is the likely result of this situation?

I can certainly give you some advice on the tax consequences of this transaction. As you are a Bond student I will reduce my fee to $500 per hour. You may make an appointment with my secretary. I should warn you that you the Australian Taxation Office will take a very dim view if you try to use fake names to cover up your part in this transaction. If you have any thought of sending the pork chop to any other party via a tax haven we will need to look at both the Canadian and Australian consequences and my fee will double.

4) In 50 words what is a typical day like for Dean Duncan Bentley?

Wall to wall meetings 7 am to 7 pm interspersed by kissing a few ships and launching a few babies. Recently I have taken to answering ridiculous questions sent by email on my holidays.

5) Rugby League? Union? Cricket? Or AFL?

Cricket in summer, Union in winter. I don't know to what the psychobabble in the rest of the question refers.

6) What is your favourite Australian Rock Band and Roll Band? (your answer may be, but does not have to be limited to, any band that starts with AC and ends with DC)

Bach was a band in himself. In his time he was considered rock and roll. If Australia had been a migration spot at the time he would have been a Gold Coaster. But if your question is serious I cannot go past the Wiggles.

7) Your best advice for succeeding at Bond University?

Work very hard; make the most of every opportunity; make opportunities where they don't already exist; enjoy yourself - this is university; plan ahead so you can fulfil your dreams after Bond; and whatever you do don't plagiarise.

-end-

Thanks to Duncan for being a good sport.

Useless commentary with Marc

Here's a new segment to the blog I'd like to call a chat with Marc. We'll be discussing relevant, and not so relevant issues of the day. Here's today's conversation.

Marc: The Knicks (New York Basketball team) offered Jared Jefferies $6 million.

The Vitamin: really

Marc: yes...odd move.

The Vitamin: sure was.

-end-

And that concludes today's usless commentary with Marc.

In other news...this story is very cool in my opinion. Go to the website after and read Matt's Story.

On another note, here's this....it's the right thing to do and about time.

Hulkamania is running...err...hobbling wild?

  • Thursday's report includes another tough day at Bond Uni followed by a few drinks with friends at Don's Tavern for 80's night.
  • Seen above is Nate (aka The hobbling/glass smashing Hulkster). What other man would dye his hair yellow, then cut part of it off to make a Hulkster Handlebar moustache, then shave his head after? That's why he's part of the terrible three. And even though he may be the worst pool player I have ever seen, we won every game. Thanks to DB, Morgan and Marc for the free drinks.
  • We ended up in Surfers(where nothing good can happen). The night ended with Morgan morphing into a version of the wild drunk again...although, most of the wildness was gone. He was more just....well...drunk. And the Hulkster shouldn't have been lying on the road. Maybe then his ankle wouldn't have been run over by a cab.
  • Marc made his return...is he back?
  • Speaking of the Hulkster, I still remember seeing this as a kid. It was awesome then, and it's still great. Notice who's commentating - former Governor Jesse "the body" Ventura. Upon further searching I found this video. You have to watch. I couldn't stop laughing when he started talking about the Hulkamaniacs dog-paddling.
  • Here's the thing about Australian Gameshows...they're better than North American ones, but most of the time they're playing for nothing. Someone just won two cell phones on Temptation and was elated. Sometimes the grand prize on these shows are trips to Melbourne, Sydney, or the Gold Coast. It would kinda be like going on a show back home and winning a trip to Winnipeg. There is one exception to this with Deal or No Deal (which the US now has a version of).
  • I'm back to arm-wrestling again.
  • Next time I eat eggs I want to be sure they're cage eggs. I don't like the eggs from the chickens that get to run around all day. The caged chickens are professional egg chickens. They know what they're doing. The ones that run around are the amateurs.
  • And to all the Hulkamaniacs out there....Do your training, say your prayers and eat your vitamins
P.S. - Here's some info for Law Students re tutoring schedules thanks to Brendan Scandrett.

This, that, and the other thing that I can't remember.

  • With all the terror this new LSA has gone through, I've been thinking of training a few young Queensland High Schoolers to bring the same sort of accountability to their local high school student bodies.
  • I think you're all aware that this is the official dog of www.gordprisco.blogspot.com. However, this one is now a close second.
  • I'm thinking of changing the name of this page to the Vitamin's propaganda page.
  • My good friend Al Pyette tells me that when the Euphrates River dries up, we're all in trouble. He goes on to remind me to read the good book as it all unravels.
  • Tonight is Club Empire (the Business School's Club 20) at Bond Uni. A few cheap drinks with friends never hurt? I'm giving my staff the night off.
  • Next Tuesday 1 April 5pm is an LSA meeting (in the LSA common room) where they intend to change their constitution. My crack staff will be reporting on this issue. We're also following other issues as they happen...or a few days after they happen...well...really, we're just making things up as we go along.
  • If anyone knows where M&M peanuts are on sale this week, please post a comment and tell me. I am going through withdrawal.
  • Patrick Keyzer won the student teaching excellence award at Bond. What an asset to the school. If www.gordprisco.blogspot.com had to vote for the best tutor at Bond Uni, we'd choose Elizabeth Greene. She's the best. It's always a battle to get into her tutorials each semester.
  • Why would Mike Krzyzewski (Duke Blue Devils) risk tarnishing his reputation to coach the USA Men's Basketball Team? The team has a recent past of players with uncontrollable egos. Why would he want to deal with this potential disaster? Here's his answer to that question:

“But this is what we do,’’ Coach K said. “By doing this, you keep your edge. As long as you’re coaching, you have to always think of getting better. As long as you’re playing, you’ve got to always think of getting better. As long as you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing, you’ve got to think about getting better."

“You can’t just say, ‘I’m going to play it safe now.’ You’re continually looking for ways to get better.”

  • Footnote to Father Prisco for the Coach K stuff...

UPDATE and UPDATE

Thanks to the person that found out about the LSA website. For the record, Tenny Kim (one of www.gordprisco.blogspot.com's great friends) is not on the LSA anymore to fix the I.T. problems. However, rumour is that he fixed this problem anyway. Great job Tenny.

Now, if the LSA could change the picture to show on the homepage to show the new council (We'll give them some time on this one, there's a few more important things to do for the time being).

P.S - I think you have to re-evaluate your life when it gets to the point that when you're halfway through a conversation with someone and they say, "this IS off the record isn't it?".

By the way, this weeks album is Wolfmother by the artist of the same name. Try tracks Colossal, Woman, White Unicorn and Pyramid. In our opinion (that being of www.gordprisco.blogspot.com) they're a cross between Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath and The White Stripes. Decent first offering.

Monday's Musings

  • I great comment was posted today. It was about the LSA site - "http://www.lsa.bond.edu.au" why doesn't it work? While we're working on other issues, we should also work on this one. I googled Bond University LSA and nothing of substance came up. Although I did get the Australian Law Student's Association (ALSA) website, which we coincidentally paid for one of our LSA members to go to, and the this was the information that was given. It's got a link that doesn't work to our LSA. Every other school's website works - why doesn ours? Secondly, it's also got out-of-date information about our current LSA? Did we the Bond Student Council spend hundreds of dollars so that we could have erroneous information posted? Let's get this changed.
  • On the same topic, I recently went to the Bond University Student Council Social Clubs page found here. The information is about a ga-zillion years old. What is the deal here? Can we get this updated? Is someone responsible for this on council? We'll ask BUSA President Jess Leach about this one?
  • I think I have to throw out my polkadot pajamas. There's a hole in the behind area. I've had the pajamas for years. It's gonna be tough to say goodbye.

Statement by www.gordprisco.blogspot.com

President Brendan.

Your recent comment about "slanderous comments" was on the mark.

From now on, no slanderous comments will be published on this blog - unless they are 1) clearly a joke or nonsensical or; 2) Written by Jack "the skuller" Blackburn - the official alcohol critic (we all know that he only writes his comments/articles after copious amounts of alcohol or wedges from the brasserie and should be allowed to spread his views at that time).

I will try and control my Culinary Critic Mr Matt Lorkin into commenting on Culinary Issues.

The board of directors at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com supports the efforts of President Brendan Donoghue in his efforts to do what is best for the students of the Law Faculty. He has shown us already that he means business (I have seen this first hand). We have no reason to believe that he will not continue his efforts.

For those of you that may be saying that we at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com are kowtow-ing to President Brendan's wishes, we say this - yes, we probably are...

P.S. www.gordprisco.blogspot.com wishes to retract any comments made about LSA student affairs representative Brendan Scandrett. The wrong message got out. The fact is this, he was the first person at the library meeting the other day, and the last one to leave. He has thus far shown his worth. The staff here will be watching, but the criticism has been a little undeserved.

We at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com will admit when we make an error. Today is one of those days (well...we won't usually admit when we screw up to be honest, but we are in a good mood today).

Friday Report...bits and pieces

  • The staff-student library roundtable was held today in the Main Library. The CEO of www.gordprisco.blogspot.com attended the meeting. We got to business quickly. LSA President Brendan Donoghue took the bull by the horns by bringing the library hours issue to the forefront of the meeting. A great discussion ensued. Director of Library Services Gulcin Cribb took the suggestions to heart and many other suggestions resulted. Looks like we'll be having a survey soon to what changes should be made to the hours. President Brendan also made a great suggestion about giving wireless Laptop owners access to send their jobs to directly to the printers without having to access one of the desktop school computers. I felt it was a great suggestion which Gulcin informed us is on the radar screen, and is being pushed by the Vice Chancellor. Other student participants included LSA President Brendan Donaghue, Bond University President Jess , Sarah, Sam Cochrane, Brendan Scandrett, Julien, Kate and Jenna. The meeting was well attended by library staff - which further goes to prove their commitment to excellence. Although I didn't get a chance to meet everyone on a one-on-one basis, it was nice hear from Gulcin, Mark, Wendy, Peta, Chris Curtis, Paul White (our law librarian), Brian, Cindy, Michael, among many others who attended. I am certain that we'll see some small changes in the coming future that will make the library services at Bond University even better than they already are.
  • As an aside, thanks to the library staff for becoming readers of this useless little nonsense page - I was wondering why my daily hits were going up?
  • ok...so that's that...now onto other things relevant and yet nonsensical.
  • President Brendan sent me the following the email:

No LSA funds were spent to send anyone to ALSA. None, nada, zip.
Student Council paid for one person from the LSA to go and represent the university at the conference.
The faculty part subsidised the mooters. The mooters and not others were chosen simply given their wealth of experience and previous sacrifice in this area for the law school.

Thanks
Brendan

  • President Brendan is proving to be a fiscally responsible manager while remaining open to the social conscience of the law school. Well done Brendan....but don't let the grass grow under your feet.
  • Canadian Golfer Mike Weir is in contention at the British Open. Dave and Mark Lucenti hate Mike Weir. The staff (each and every one of us) at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com are all big supporters of Weir. We are proud Canadians. Proud to see that a Canadian is in contention after the first day. Mark and Dave don't want to see Weir do well. I guess they don't like Canada?
  • Last night was Club 20 in front of the law school. Although I had an Admin tutorial for the first half, I could hear the music playing from down below. Kudos to Tom Clarke and the rest of the LSA for taking some of the musical suggestions on www.gordprisco.blogspot.com and playing some great Aussie music. Another great Club 20.
  • Varsity Lakes tavern had a ping pong tournament in which James Payne and I were dismantled by Matty Lambert and Morgan. James, work on your backhand!
  • I would like to report on the rest of the evening, but it involved too much debauchery to mention. Basically it involved the terrible three - Matty, Myself and Nate, going to Surfers....I'm gonna end it there...I have to...
  • More to come...but I gotta go get my pizza.

What AREN'T these two students doing?

Trevor (left) and Matt Lambert (right) seen in the picture above are taking care of business. Working with the rest of the Canadian Law Student's Association (CLSA) at Bond University, they are preparing packages for potential employers back in Canada. Trevor tells me that there are 225 firms they are sending packages to (as an aside, Trevor will be doing the same thing for other international students as his role on the LSA). To be fair they're not alone. They're working with other members of the CLSA including Paula, Wilky, Diego....and others.

If they need assistance, they have full use of our staff at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com.

Thanks guys.

On another note. I am tempted at putting up the link for the two-legged dog again.

Sanity...

  1. If you're reading this blog for the first time - welcome, it's nice to have you here.
  2. If this is the 4th or 5th time you've read the blog - it's time to make a comment, thanks for the interest
  3. If you've read this blog everyday this week - you may be having problems in your life.
  4. If you haven't missed a day looking at this blog where you've had internet access - you should check yourself into a mental institution...or you should apply to become one of our staff members.
  5. If you've written on this blog everyday (comments or posts) then you call and get help immediately.

Speaking of loyal readers - Jack the "Skuller" Blackburn. Here is his first forray into the world of www.gordprisco.blogspot.com (expetives omitted...and there were lots!). Disclaimer: We at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com are not responsible for any spelling mistakes or any slander or defamation suits. Here it is:

Jack "skuller" Blackburn reporting, I believe this is my first statement under employment from www.gordprisco.blogspot.com.

Hooper wasnt actually on bredan side, he ran VP for the opisition. Most of us studying a real degree "Law" not some pussy Hunanitarian degree know how to argue.

In issues of Brendan Jurisdiction as LSA president i put it to the world he has it. It may not be direct but as president of LSA he has jurisdiction over the well fair of LSA students, since some like myself live on campus he has jurisdiction to cater for my food needs, i consider it inadequate that i either have to choose from food posioning from the food on campus or starvation as its only alternative. Since it affect law students brendan has jurisdiction and from my talkings with him he is putting an arguement forward. If brendan wants to allign with res students to release us from our 3rd world/imprisonment conditions i am not going to object to it.

As for Library hours they are to short, no one "real" gets up until 12 on saturday or sunday this leaves &$@! all hours to go to the library, the library should be open 9 am to 11 pm everyday

On to a real issue, The uni tavern. As the alcohol critic at http://www.gordprisco.blogspot.com/ i am constantly pepressed at the effort the uni is putting in at dons. The prices are to high, the staff to slow and the places isnt open enough, take the weekend when they served our dinner there for the reasons being that they are trying to destroy the plague of rats and other infectious things in the brasserie. They didnt serve alcohol, UN@#&!INBELIEVABLE!, i am outraged needless to say, they had the doors to the Alcohol chiller chained shut with locks. I put to Bond University i could kick there arse at running a pub as i have exprience growing up in one, Beatting the current effort at Dons wouldnt be to hard though.

More as it happens, i must work on cracking my PB [personal best] with the pitcher of bourbon, 30 seconds isnt good enough, i will be workin hard to get it down to 25

This is skuller reporting, Supporting the irrosponsible consumption of alcohol.

I think the Skuller may have been drunk when he wrote this. We may have to get Jack Walkden Brown back at this school to give the Skuller a writing skills seminar. Although, his love for writing cannot be denied. Rumour has it that skuller went 900 words over the limit (1500 words) for his Admin paper...and he's still got ideas.

P.S. - we're getting answers to issues around here. Please comment on changes to library hours if you already haven't done so. The big library roundtable is tomorrow and www.gordprisco.blogspot.com will be there...for the free lunch anyway.

Blogosphere - Updated

This is a recent comment I the staff here at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com made me aware of

To Brendan...dont bother writing on this blog. It is a discredit to your leadership. YOu owe nothing to a blog drum up by some student.

There are other avenues for you to raise your defense. No political leader goes on to a BLOG to raise his defense...he will get killed.

Remember this is just some stupid, silly blog.

The author wrote in as anonymous - However we at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com now know that the culprit was one Mark Lucenti. We thought he knew more about the modern day tools than that. Apparently, we were wrong. We hope that from now on Mr Lucenti will have the courage to attach his name to his posts.

In fact yes, this blog is just for fun...and no harm is meant by it. However, the writer is flat out wrong to discredit the power of blogs in this day and age.

The first example of this was in the early 1990's where a small website called the Drudge Report (which had no affiliation to any mainstream media) first reported on the sex scandal between U.S. President Bill Clinton and White House intern Monical Lewinsky. Since then Matt Drudge has one of the most influential political websites in the world. In Canada, Pierre Bourque's site named "Bourque.com" has had much the same effect. Cabinet Ministers, political pundits and staff are found viewing this site every few hours daily (I know this, because I have been political staff for cabinet ministers).

Furthermore, political candidates are now seeking interviews with bloggers - evidenced in the Canadian Liberal leadership contest, "The Liberal leadership race, like no other political contest before it, is being waged in the "blogosphere" — the rollicking, unpredictable world of online diarists and self-made political pundits."

For further reference please see this article from the Boston Globe.

I think I've made my point. The writer is wrong.

While I'm not quite the Drudge Rerport or Pierre Bourque, the members of the LSA aren't quite Cabinet Ministers either. We at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com will support the LSA when we think they are doing a good job (see Sam Berry limes for Club 20, Tom Clarke responding to music requests for Club 20, Brendan Donoghue helping students with LSA emails or meeting with professors and the VC). Otherwise, we'll keep reporting on the issues of the day. We will also keep reporting on issues that are nonsensical.

I have to get a life.

Action Jackson...

Now here's service from an LSA member. A few weeks back I asked Tom Clarke (Social Director on your LSA) about playing some good old Aussie Rock n' Roll at Club 20. He told me at the time his selection was a little limited. Today I get this email about the next club 20,

Hope this is you Gord. It's Tom from the LSA. I remember you demanding some Aussie music for the next Club 20. Make me a 'Best of' CD and I'll slide some tracks into the playlist ok?
That would be great if you could do that mate. Get back to me.
Tom

Wow. Now that's what I call taking care of business.

Here are my thoughts on the playlist:
(note - originally I had a list of all ACDC songs, but when I realised people may not be ready for the greatest playlist ever created, I changed it a bit).

1) Khe Sahn - Cold Chisel
2) Sunsets - Powderfinger
3) Stumblin - Powderfinger
4) You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC (the world's greatest rock band).
5) Flame Trees - Cold Chisel
6) Jive Talkin - Bee Gees
7) Staying Alive - Bee Gees
8) Elegantly Wasted - INXS
9) Giving You Up - Kylie Minogue (what a babe - get better Kylie!)
10) Safety Dance - Men at Work
11) Who Can It Be Now? - Men at Work
12) Baby I've Got You On My Mind - Powderfinger
13) Moneytalks - AC/DC (good one for the folks at Bond)
14) Have A Drink On Me - AC/DC

And for the last I was thinking a little Canadiana for our Aussie friends. I may need help on this one, but I was thinking
15) Courage - The Tragically Hip

Let me know if anyone has any additions....

Next Column - Introducing: Jack "skuller" Blackburn.

Response

What responses to the last few posts. Our staff has also been inundated with questions about the latest few issues. But as a credit to the new LSA, they are on the ball. I have spoken with the new President, and the Vice President has commented on this blog.

However, instead of posting their comments in the comment section, I would rather give them their own post to spread their word. If you don't like it, you can comment. But have the onions to post your name at least if you're gonna say something bad.

This came from President Brendan Donoghue:

Ok. Well as they say there is only one thing worse than people talking about you, and that is people not talking about you.

Let me address the issues on this blog one at a time.

Firstly the food
Matt, as I explained when you first mentioned this to me; this is outside the realm of the LSA. However, let me reiterate what I think that we all should do. For the benefit of the people that weren’t there on the evening, let me explain. Food and Bev (hereinafter the bra) are like a govt dept. There is no need for them to improve because they have a guaranteed line of income, being all the students on meal plans.

Why would you serve better food or be nicer when it will make no difference to your bottom line? You wouldn’t would you?
We as students can abuse them all that we like but at the end of the day that isn’t going to be time spent productively. The only way to get their attention is to threaten their income. The way to make a change is to then facilitate students having a choice. Enter the idea that you can use a meal ticket at Juicy Bits. If students are given a choice between the bra and JB’s then there will be people who will choose the latter. If this occurs the bra will have to look at how they can keep their customers coming back and how to make them happy right?

All of a sudden your concerns are being paid attention to.
The best bit about this idea is that it can help the students too. With the introduction of VSU more and more student council needs funding from things other than activity fees. Why not tie the deal to allow JB’s to cash meal tickets to an agreement that they give say 5 or 10% of all profits to the student council to help with the reduction of funding next semester? Here are the benefits of this plan: 1. More choice for students. 2. Better value for money 3. Increased income for Students. 4. Reinvestment in business on campus.

Now my suggestion to you Matt would be to focus your energies on helping with the implementation of a plan like this, instead of seeing how many ways that you can miss-spell my name. Brendan

The following TWO were written in by Donoghue's right hand- Vice President Matt Hooper.

1)

A few clarifications in defence of our library. (1) The library always extends its opening hours around exam time. (2) The library closes at 6pm on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and not any earlier, as was suggested. Also, why are so many people afraid to put their name on their posts??? Unless there are lots of people called d and anonymous...

2)
Dear All, I am very happy that this blog has raised various issues of concern to Bond law students. I would remind you all that should you have concerns which you would like the LSA to act upon, you should inform the LSA of these concerns directly. While Gordo's blog rocks, it isn't a means of informing the LSA that you have a problem. So rather than rant about how the LSA does nothing for you and is a complete failure, please inform us when you have a problem and we'll do our best to help get it fixed. If you'd like to come and talk to me about the library issue please do. In fact, the LSA has already had a meeting with a number of the library staff, including the director of library services (Gulcin) and the head of the law library (Paul). Please feel free to e-mail the LSA or myself, or call us, or drop in to the office during office hours (Mon-Fri 10am-2pm). If you don't give us a chance to help you, OF COURSE we will fail to solve your problems.

end

Now....the board of directors and the staff at www.gordprisco.blogspot has met. Firstly, we would like to say this - We agree wholeheartedly with the thoughts of President Brendan Donaghue on the Brasserie. Competition is what is needed. Have you ever seen the gents down at Juicy Bits? They're working their ass off. Yeah so what the coffee isn't as good as the coffee cart, but the service is second to none. They work harder than anyone at this Uni. Let's do something about this.

Secondly, while we agree with Vice President Matt Hooper that the openning hours are extended during exams....what about during assignment period. We feel that the library should be open at at least 8am everyday. Cut off the extra half-hour at night - close at 10:30pm instead of 11pm. Also, hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday could be extended during assignment period in our opinion.

Let us know what your thoughts are about the times here in the comment section. This issue will be brought up at the meeting this Friday. The CEO of www.gordprisco.blogspot.com will be there (apparently the Culinary Critic - Matt Lorkin, will be in Sydney. He is doing a review of the Sydney Uni hot dog stand).

As for Hooper's comments about letting the LSA know what's happening. It's time they did something more to hear student concerns. Get with the times folks. We need email addresses readily available. We need the comment box in a better spot (it's currently stuck in the corner of locked LSA office I believe). Also, let the students know what you're doing for them. I understand after originally deciding we shouldn't be spending any money to send anyone to the ALSA conference, a last decision was made to pay for someone to go from LSA funding. What came of this? Was it money well spent? Communicate this message if you have one. Feel free to use this forum to get these messages out to students. We elected you, now prove to us that you've deserved our confidence in you.

That's it for now...

The Library Update

www.gordprisco.blogspot.com is close to the pulse at Bond University and around the world. Whether its a story about a two-legged super dog, or simply about the quality of the food on campus - our crack staff will be there. Our blog has credibility...hmm...wait. Ok, so we don't have that, but we've got guts (we will also take bribes to skew our stories). We're kinda like the this media source.

Anyway...

There is no exception in our efforts to get to the centre of the story than with the Library issue. This seems to be the hub of talk on that topic, and the staff at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com are proud to have been invited to a Library Staff roundtable this coming Friday at the Bond University Law School. Yours truly will attend on behalf of the www.gordprisco.blogspot.com staff. Here is a copy of the email they sent www.gordprisco.blogspot.com.

Bond University Library

would like to invite you to attend

STUDENT-LIBRARY STAFF ROUNDTABLE LUNCH

Friday 21st July 2006

Library Staff Tea Room, Level 4

Bond University Library

We will be at the heart of the issue on Friday. This little blog is really starting to get respect. This is what it must feel like when the New York Times is invited be present in peace talks between Israel and Palestine (but I bet in those talks there isn't a free lunch involved...suckers!).

Points of interest

I have had alot of response on my recent posts. www.gordprisco.blogpsot.com Culinary Critic Matt Lorkin has recently sent the following email:

Gordon
I have previously approached Brendan about the opening hours of the library. As you would know on Friday, Saturday and Sunday it closes at early. 6pm on Friday and I think likewise on Saturday and Sunday. To a struggling student living on the bread line it is of concern that I cannot get access to the few dog-eared copies of the texts after hours.
I have spoken to my buddy Allun (correct spelling) and he and many others share my concern regarding the Law Library opening hours. I understand that these text can be borrowed overnight. However, my concerns, and others, relate to the access of the Library in general. A small extension to 8pm would be appreciated
Like I said I spoke to Brendan and he seemed to briefly listen before telling me he had to race off for some important business. I saw him ten minutes later sitting at Juicy Bits enjoying a coffee with an attractive young lady.
Matt.

  • Mr. Lorkin has also told me that he is accusing President Donoghue of buying votes with Donuts and Coffee. He is currently looking into the election rules to see if any were breached. I told him both sides did it, and he just responded with, "that's rubbish!" Personally, I think it was a great idea. Obviously the Culinary Critic has a "beef" with the new LSA. He wants answers, and I will ensure we put all of the resources of www.gordprisco.blogspot.com to get these answers.
  • Lorkin also believes that Donoghue was offering the cheap "international roast" that they offer in the Bond cafeteria. I had to tell Mr Lorkin that they actually had Tim Horton's coffee, that was shipped from Canada. He responded, "Mate, I've drank international roast before. I know what it smells like, I know what it looks like, I know what it tastes like. That was definitely international roast."
  • I really don't know how we got onto the opening hours of the law library, but if it's an issue, then the crack staff at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com will be there to hear the people's views. I am wondering how the Bond LSA will respond to these concerns?
In other news...
  • Jordo was a disappointment in the North Bay Men's Invitational Golf Tournament this past weekend. He shot rounds of 88 and 86 to finish 8th in the 5th flight.
  • Welcome Brook Dyson to the blogging world. Brook is a class guy and I am sure his blog will be topical and fun. Find Brook at www.dailydyson.blogspot.com

Culinary Corner Update!

I just received the following email from www.gordprisco.blogspot.com Culinary Critic Matt Lorkin:

Gordon,

I have spoken to numerous people in South Tower (residence at Bond). These kids all had the same concerns about:
1. The renovations during semester
2. The state of the plates and cutlery at dons and lakeside

there is obviously a problem with the electric dishwasher over there.

Most of the people I spoke to just don't go to eat on campus at the moment despite being forced to pay for the ticket. Unfortunately, I am living below the bread line and have to.

I still have not received a reply from food and beverage yet (re my earlier email). Although I have noticed they now have an electric oven parked outside lakeside keeping the meals warm.

I have raised the plate issue with Darell at Don's. So I guess, if not anything else, I will be living off witness expenses for the next couple of years if a food poisoning outbreak occurs.

Matt

Lorkin has also recently told me that he is emailing Bond's registrar about - the food at Don's tavern, the dirty plates, Brendan Donaghue's lack of action/inaction on the food services, the food and beverage manager, and Jack Blackburn's health. Matt believes that Bond food and beverage has a duty to force Jack Blackburn at least one-serving of green vegetables per week.

Matt Lorkin's Culinary Corner

Tonight I had dinner at Don's Tavern courtesy of Louise Tillet (thank you Louise). I also had the pleasure of eating with http://www.gordprisco.blogspot.com official culinary critic - Mr Matt Lorkin (when www.gordprisco.blogspot.com asked Lorkin for a photo, he told the staff he didn't have any. He instead sent a picture of his children Jessie and Tom - who currently live in Sydney).

This is what Matt had to say about the food tonight:

"The food was reasonable. The plates were clean tonight, which is always a bonus. While the service is always friendly, if the plates are unclean, we're just waiting for an outbreak of food poisoning. Tonight I had the beef. It was good, everything else was pretty ordinary."

Matt has added that he has brought up food issues with LSA President Brendan Donaghue many times. Lorkin claims that Brendan was his best friend before the campaign, yet since the election Brendan has ignored Matt's concerns. However, www.gordprisco.blogpsot.com did mention to Lorkin that Brendan is the LSA President and probably has nothing to do with the food in the cafeteria. Matt replied, "I just want answers, and the way Donaghue carries on, I thought he was in charge of everything."

When asked what Matt thought when Jack Blackburn came to the table with a full plate of chips and wedges, Matt said, "Now that's a heart-stopping meal."

It's always a pleasure to spend time with Jack Blackburn. He may very well become http://www.gordprisco.blogspot.com official bourbon and coke Jug 'chugger' (skuller). That is, as long as we don't have to drag him into the elevator again after he does such things. We are surprised he is still alive.

Today's Trivia question is this (Most of the reader's of this site will know this). What famous Australian street was this video filmed on?

Grapes Hops and Jazz...and more (updated quiz)

  • After a hectic week, well deserved evening was had at Bond University with the "Grapes Hops and Jazz" party". A ticket got you entry into the Princeton room where a live Jazz band crooned us all. Kudos to Luke who has thrown the party for 6 semesters.
  • I am about to announce changes to my staff here at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com. They include the new campus culinary critic - Matt Lorkin - full bio coming.
  • Also, just after deciding that Samir would be the official photographer for the site, he told me that he dropped his camera in the hot tub and it hasn't worked since. So special thanks to Gia for these photos.
  • The equity assignment proved very difficult for most. That's all I will say about that.
  • I think my brain is dead. Yesterday i had so many things to talk about, and now...nothing.
  • Coming soon - one of the biggest interviews in my blog's short history.
  • Quiz Question of the week - Which member of the Bond University LSA was a former Swimwear model?

More of this and that...

  • This blogger has been approached by many individuals to write something about the situation with the brassiere (school cafeteria) which is currently undergoing renovation at the peak of the semester. Over one-thousand students rely on this service (I made that figure up, but you get the point). Every person that lives on campus has to purchase a meal card. Services are being moved to Don's tavern, Juicy Bits and Lakeside Grill. A few questions arise 1) why is this being done in the middle of the semester? 2) why can't it be done in the break in 5 weeks? 3) what notice were students given for this disruption? 4) did the students have a say in this? 5) Did president Jess know about this? (someone I respect very much....partly cause she can drink more than me, but mostly cause she's got small town values and common sense). Looking for responses to these questions?
  • Here's an email my good friend Matt Lorkin sent to someone named Daniela Lakmayer who presumably has a say over the brassiere:

Good Afternoon.
I would like to express my utter disgust at the level of service provided by your office this week.
1st. The Brasserie has been closed for what I understand to be some form of maintenance. I do not understand why the primary eating facility should be closed at all during the semester. Surely this work could of been completed during the break. The facilities provided in lieu of the brasserie are either a licensed premises or a venue with a maximum seating capacity of approximately 20 people.
2nd. I attended my first meal this week on Tuesday night at the Lakeside. The meals were all luke warm and self service. Surely this is un hygienic. Each customer handled the utensils, which is in my opinion of third world standards. I observed one person coughing over the food as he was serving himself. Another had a gym towel wrapped around his shoulder as he too served himself. When I enquired about dessert I was told that jelly was the only option available.
3rd. I attempted to get some lunch today at Lakeside. The que which I stood in for half an hour had only halfed by the time I was so frustrated that I left. I have been told by a fellow student that after he waited for some forty minutes for lunch at the Lakeside he was told that most ingredients were not available and options were limited. He was served a ham role within one piece of ham upon it. When he inquired about desert he too was informed that jelly was the only option.
4th. I am paying a significant amount of money to attend this university. I am utterly disgusted that I have to waist my time pointing out the inadequacies of your service let alone the time and frustration involved in attempting to obtain meals in ques or being served un hygienic meals.
5th. Please notify me when my funds forwarded to you for this weeks meals have been returned to my credit card.
Matt Lorkin

  • From the sounds of it...there's alot more people out there like Matt
  • How about the Conservative government back home with this. It's about time. Guess who was the first to recognize these victims? ...see here... I remember the day this was done. I was proud to be a conservative this day. And today I am proud again.
  • Is there something wrong with me? (don't answer that...I know there is) I can't get enough of this dog... It's the third time I've put it on my blog.
  • Glad to see www.teaminappropriate.blogspot.com doing so well. The good staff at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com thank them for their efforts of reporting what's news from here and afar.

Do you have a belt?

I'm not sure if I should release this information. It might be classified. But, when you tell something to www.gordprisco.blogspot.com, you are in danger of it becoming public.

Moves:

DB - "it all starts in the shoulders Vitamin. Take it from there. And do you have a belt? Do you have belt buckle? Grab it! Swing it....save it for Rock N' Roll...but move it, take a chance...and you'll be there."

Brady Jones, the "Hunter Gatherer" himself, does not give away secrets. Yet, he doesn't hide his skills. Michael Jordan showed his game...but nobody could emulate. Try if you may...we're certain to see more.

"Just watch me"

This guy lied to Canadian people about wage and price controls in the early seventies, was the Prime Minister that began Canada's deficit...but man, he had balls, charisma and gusto. Take a look at him here.

However....if you want someone the Did what he said he would do, made promises - and kept them...look at this guy.

The songs of the week could very well be Down by the River and Like a Hurricane - Neil Young. Thanks to Brady Jones for the shout out back to Neil Young. Also thanks to Matty Lambert for The Used..interesting and new.

By the way...You're as old as you feel:

Interviewer: Have you got any kids?
Angus Young: My wife says I'm the only one.

School Days

School work has gotten the better of me. I'm sure it's the same for many others. It's not fun.

I'll be quick with today's post and leave you with this. The album of the week for those of you that are studying is AC/DC's Powerage For those of you studying at Bond, listen to the second song...Down Payment Blues.

Lastly this....is an extension a good or bad thing? I am starting to believe extensions are the devil.

Ahead by a Century

First thing we climbed a tree, and maybe then we talk...but we never sat silently, we listened to the Vitamin's thoughts.

Thanks to all the reader's who put www.gordprisco.blogspot.com over the century mark in hits yesterday.

That's over one-hundred different IP addresses hitting this little blog.

We'll try and keep the topical news and controversy coming.

The staff.

Also, please visit www.teaminappropriate.blogspot.com - a great site started by our good friend Andy.

Birthday Wishes

Happy Birthday Ari Comert. You look surprised in this photo. Maybe it's cause you're in front of silver medalist badminton player Gia.

It's your special day Mr Comert. I hope you have enjoyed yourself.

Cheers from all of us at www.gordprisco.blogspot.com

Response

"What is even more pathetic than the girls not scoring in the first half is a 30 year old man going to a university sports tournament not as a player but as a housewife for 20 year old athletes."

First off - I was the nutritionist. My team needed Red Bulls, Beer, Vodka, and cigarrettes.

Secondly - I was also the housemaid. I didn't get to put on my little french maid outfit though cause I was too busy kissing DB and Brady.

Thirdly - Yesterday was my biggest hit day ever. The controversy is taking this blog to new heights. I thank you all for your time.

Comments

I appreciate the comments lately on the blog. I have recently changed the settings so that if you post a comment you can show who you are. I'm sure you people that post don't want to hide behind the anonymous label? Have fun, and please keep the comments coming.

The myth, the man, the legend...

What more needs to be said than this - Robert Bartrop. Legend.

The games - thoughts and pieces....

  • The Australian Northern University Games were held this past week in Caloundra - Sunshine Coast, Queensland Australia. Fun was had by most...I'll leave it at that.
  • The president and CEO of www.gordprisco.blogspot.com was involved with the squash team, and very briefly the girls basketball team. It was a tale of two cities. One team worked together, was behind one another, had roles, gave it their all, supported one-another. The other had a few bright spots, but couldn't get past their own egos. Unfortunately for the rest of the team they brought morale down to a level few have seen before. Neither team brought back a medal...but one team brought back a team spirit that will not be forgotten. Others still need to realise what a team means. Besides, how can you take a team seriously that doesn't score in the first half of most games? Anyway, enough about that...
  • The point of the games was not about winning or losing. It was about camradarie and friendship.
  • The volleyball team led by Andy and Marcus (and some force named Steph) played hard. Andy got an MVP award. Well done.
  • The AFL team won the gold led by Sam Chester and James Perry. Well done. Rich couldn't find the field - way to go Rich, you screwed up again.
  • Speaking of Rich, his golf team won the silver. Sam Marash was the glue that held that team together with Jon Baker.
  • The baseball team made the semis, but lost in the bronze medal game of a four team tournament - if you call default losing. The Rocket may have had a few too many drinks before the 8am game - and that's not too good for the catcher.
  • Rugby led by Robert Bartrop and his 6 stitches (the amount of stitches went up after every beer he had...and the story got better and better each time) came up short but drank very well.
  • Morgan Shipp (my law assignment partner) competed in Lawn bowls. What a sport. I'm not sure if he knows how they did...I'm not sure if he knows where he was on Tuesday night (more about him in a later post)....see him above (bottom Pic) skulling a beer at Kangaroo court night.
  • I spoke for the squash team on Kangaroo court night...had to charge Myles and Brady for disappointment. Brady believing nobody having it harder than the squash team, and Myles for being the #1 seed from our team and not winning a game (he did win 1 later...although his competition was fiercer than a pissed of Girls b-ball team member).
  • The nightlife got a little painful.
  • ok, I've been trying to write this post for a day...I just can't remember. My staff were on vacation...this is where it ends for now.

Uni Games #1 - Girls Basketball

The Girls' Basketball team from Uni Games. Dissension was the order of the day for this squad. Kinda reminded this coach of the New York Knicks. There were some bright spots, but few and far between. That's all I'll say about them from the games.

From left to right top - Michael "Yogi" Stewart, Stephon Marbury, Antoine Walker, Darius Miles, Vince Carter, Jalen Rose, Shaquille O'Neal. From Bottom Left - Larry Brown (coach), Dennis Rodman, Boris Diaw, Charles Barkley.
